EDITORIAL MAGISTERIO ESPAÑOL
Editorial Magisterio Español dates back to 1866 and was
set in motion by don Emilio Ruiz de Salazar, who set up the magazine
specialising in topics having to do with teaching, ‘el magisterio
español’, the first edition of which appeared in Madrid
on 8th may.
From the beginning it published special edition supplements about
topics such as childhood, women’s issues, the law and pedagogy.
In addition, in accordance with the customs of the time, it published
for many years novels in instalments. Generally these novels were
of a pedagogic nature and would later appear in book form. They
were given as a present to subscribers and sold to others who might
want them.
Along with the main activity – the editing of the magazine
– the publication of books slowly began to gain in importance.
The supply of books increased with pedagogic and educational works.
The novels already mentioned and the text books came to form the
main part of the catalogue. The most significant collectons have
been novels and stories, children’s section and the schoolbooks
of religion and catechism.
In 1993 the publishing house let the magazine go, but it is still
published by its new owners.
In 1994 the publishing side joined with Editorial Casals and that
is still the case now.
